Qurbani 2025

When it comes to meals, there are none as blessed as Qurbani.

The Great Sacrifice

The sacrifice of Qurbani is a sacred trust upon every believing adult Muslim.

Every year during Eid al-Adha (from the 10th to the 13th of Dhul Hijjah), Muslims walk in the footsteps of the blessed Prophet Ibrahim (Alayhi Salam) and the sacrifice he was willing to make for Allah (SWT).

In commemoration of this - and to mark the completion of Hajj - Muslims sacrifice a healthy, well-kept animal and distribute a portion of its meat to the neediest around them.

This act of obedience and giving is done to attain closeness with Allah (SWT) - the name "Qurbani" even comes from the Arabic word 'qurb' (meaning near) in this spirit.

"Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is piety from you..." (Qur'an 22:37)

The Joy of Eid

For so many families around the world, the meal of Qurbani will be one of the rare occasions they even get to eat meat.

It is no exaggeration to say that communities all around the world look forward to these days when they, too, can share in the joy of Eid without the burden of hunger to taint the day.

Charity Meals works through local partners in India, Jammu & Kashmir, Palestine, Kenya, and Nepal to provide fresh, locally sourced, and high-quality meat to the most impoverished communities.

The Story of Qurbani

Muslims carry out Qurbani to honour the sacrifice made by the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) when Allah (SWT) instructed him to sacrifice his son, Ismail (AS). Out of their devotion to the Creator, the pair obliged; however, Allah (SWT) replaced Ismail (AS) with a ram at the last minute, leaving him completely unharmed. This was a reward for their undying commitment to the Creator, which is expected of every Muslim.
