While the plight of hunger and poverty in developing countries across the globe attracts significant ongoing attention, the cost-of-living crisis and soaring rates of inflation have exposed significant food poverty issues in the UK - issues that are getting considerably worse on an almost daily basis.
According to the ONS, 95% of adults in Great Britain reported an increase in their cost of living. In 2022/23, the Trussell Trust supplied 2.99 million three-day emergency food parcels. UK food charities are struggling to keep up with the demand from individuals and families who are being plunged into food poverty, sometimes for the first time in their lives.
Food poverty is defined as eating less or not eating at all over the course of a day because someone cannot afford to eat. 17.7% of UK families now fall into this category, according to the Food Foundation.
At Charity Meals, our vision is a world where everyone has access to nutritious food and safe drinking water - whether in the UK or further afield, no one should be going hungry.
Combating Hunger and Food Insecurity
We believe that no one should have to suffer from hunger, dehydration, starvation, or malnutrition.
Our goal is quite simply to work towards eradicating food insecurity both in the UK and overseas and ensure that everyone has access to the most basic necessities.
Providing Food and Water
Nourishing food for vulnerable families and individuals, meeting daily nutritional needs.
We are working towards a world where vulnerable families and individuals have access to nutritious food supplies, as well as hot, cooked meals that meet their daily nutritional requirements. Through targeted, specific programmes and projects, we will provide the funding and the infrastructural help and support to meet both immediate needs and create long-term solutions.
Working alongside hunger charities in the UK and international charities, our aim is to ensure that every person has access to food, regardless of where they live or their individual economic circumstances.
We also believe that access to safe drinking water is a basic human right. Our water sanitation programmes are an integral part of empowering communities and protecting them against waterborne disease.
We are committed to working towards a world where food poverty is a thing of the past.
Make Charity Meals your charity of choice, and together we can continue to fight food poverty and make a positive difference in the lives of the vulnerable and needy, both in the UK and further afield.
