While the plight of hunger and poverty in developing countries across the globe attracts significant ongoing attention, the cost-of-living crisis and soaring rates of inflation have exposed significant food poverty issues in the UK - issues that are getting considerably worse on an almost daily basis.
According to the ONS, 95% of adults in Great Britain reported an increase in their cost of living. In 2022/23, the Trussell Trust supplied 2.99 million three-day emergency food parcels. UK food charities are struggling to keep up with the demand from individuals and families who are being plunged into food poverty, sometimes for the first time in their lives.
Food poverty is defined as eating less or not eating at all over the course of a day because someone cannot afford to eat. 17.7% of UK families now fall into this category, according to the Food Foundation.

We also believe that access to safe drinking water is a basic human right. Our water sanitation programmes are an integral part of empowering communities and protecting them against waterborne disease.
